A Sampling of Stories

A Reminder of the Resurrection

Afraid that we are not worthy of love, that forgiveness and mercy will not receive us, we might live with wounds that fester in the darkness. We long for a needed sign of spring in the midst of winter.

“ There are parts of us…and they are not all wounds… pieces of our lives that can only be revealed in the presence of Holy Love. We must not settle for anything less.”

Finding Higher Ground

This is the story of a woman as she travels a painful road of loss. In grief we sometimes wonder how to remain on this earth when what is gone leaves us with so little. This story closes with an array of breathtaking photographs. The photographs captured by the woman in this story bring healing to all of us.

“ In my training as a therapist I am familiar with the ‘stages of grief’, our sea of pain mapped out in an organized way. Defining and charting the terrain is helpful and yet we must honor each person’s journey in grief for the truly exquisite piece of work that it is."

Digging to China

The story of a child’s unfailing belief that an exotic land lays buried in her own backyard. What tools will she need? How will she use them? This child becomes a woman believing in Christ’s message that the Kingdom of Heaven is within. We must strive to be an instrument of this Truth.

“seeing the shovel poised in the earth I felt hopeful. I also felt really tired. I can see myself resting for a while…sitting on the edge of the driveway… probably watching the ants. They seem to be able to dig quite well and I did not see that they had any tools other than what God gave them.”

The Story of a Storm

A narrative delivered several weeks following the devastating hurricane of Katrina in August of 2005. Reflections offered while viewing from a distance.

“ Two forces of water and wind became to us one entity. We watched the gestation, the forming of a thing, a body, a hurricane. In the womb of atmosphere it grew. The gender decided before its birth. We named her Katrina.”

Sharing the View

A teenage boy and his father: how difficult it can be to find a way to connect to a child when they are in adolescence and moving in the opposite direction. This is story that is used to bring meaning to what can be a difficult topic between parent and child. It is a topic that is big enough to embrace sex, drugs and money: Responsibility. We have been given the ability to respond. How will we use this gift?

“ The teenage boy starts down the front stairs very slowly.  He watches his feet as though he sees them as something separate from himself.  Reaching the same step where his father sits… those feet become his own. He pulls his foot back so as to sit several steps “above” his father.”

Scenes from the Windows of her Heart

Sitting at the foot of a wise, wordless wonder a woman receives understanding about the process of life.

“On a Saturday morning in mid-October, a young woman allowed herself to commune with God through one of his greatest creations… a tree. What a wonderful teacher it had been that day!”
